
Lady Pirates Look to Avenge Loss to Charlotte

SUNDAY'S MATCH-UP
This Sunday, January 19, the East Carolina women's basketball team will host Charlotte
in its first home conference game of the 2002-03 season. The two teams faced each other
once already this season, as Charlotte edged the Pirates 83-57. Sunday's outing will be the
24th all-time meeting between the two teams. Charlotte leads the series 6-17. Game time is
slated for 2 p.m. at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
Jennifer Jackson leads the Pirates with an
average of 14.8 points per game. Courtney
Willis is close behind, averaging 14.3 points
of her own, and Tali Robich is the only other
player to average double-figures this season
at 10.2.
Jackson also leads the team in boards with 7.6 boards per outing. Willis is averaging 7.4 boards, and Robich 5.4.
The Lady Pirates have eight wins on the year, with an overall record of 8-6.
ECU has competed in three in-season tournaments this year. The Pirates were the champions of the U.S. Cellular Classic at East Carolina, and were runners-up in the UNCG Marriott Classic and the Atlanta NW Marriott Classic.
The Pirates are shooting 43.1 percent from the field this season, and 68.7 percent from the free throw line.
In 10 of the Pirates' 14 games this season, three or more players have posted doublefigure points.
In the games against Bethune-Cookman and Alabama, every participating player scored at least two points. Against Bethune- Cookman, North Carolina A&T, and Campbell, every participating player had at least one rebound.
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
Charlotte is 9-5 on the season, and is 1-0 in
Conference USA. The 49ers defeated East
Carolina in their first league game of the
season by a score of 83-57.
Pam Brown leads the 49ers in scoring. The freshman is averaging 11.5 points per game. She is the only member of the Charlotte team to average in double-figures. Against ECU on January 10, Brown put up 21 points and pulled down five boards.
Alicia Abernathy is the second leading scorer on the team, averaging 9.2 points per meeting. She leads the group in rebounding with an average of 7.2 rebounds per game.
As a team, Charlotte is shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 63.8 percent from the free throw line. The 49ers average 71.5 points per game.
THE CHARLOTTE SERIES
The January 19 meeting between Charlotte
and East Carolina will be the 24th all-time
meeting between the two teams. Charlotte
leads the series 17-6. The last time the two
met was on January 10 of this year. ECU fell
to the 49ers 83-57.
