Three-Game Road Swing Begins Wednesday at Marquette
January 28, 2003 | Men's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Coming off a dramatic double-overtime victory over South Florida at home Saturday night, East Carolina (11-6, 2-4) will play the first of three consecutive road games when the Pirates take on No. 16/18 Marquette (13-3, 5-1) in Milwaukee at 7 p.m. CST. There is no live television scheduled for the game, but it will be aired throughout the Carolinas and Virginia on the Pirate Sports Radio Network with Jeff Charles calling the play-by-play action.
East Carolina, which snapped a four-game losing streak with its victory Saturday night, will be looking to win back-to-back Conference USA games for just the second time. But in order to do so, the Pirates will have to do something they haven't done since joining the league -- win a conference game on the road.
Adding to the challenge will be the fact that the Pirates are facing a Marquette squad that hasn't lost a game at home this season, 9-0, and has won five consecutive games. East Carolina defeated the Golden Eagles, 73-70, in Greenville earlier this season.
Gabriel Mikulas scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Pirates' win over then-No. 9 Marquette on Dec. 30, 2002. Erroyl Bing and Derrick Wiley also scored double figures for ECU with 16 and 14 points respectively. Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Dwayne Wade netted 21 points for Marquette.
