Mikulas Named C-USA Co-Player of the Week
January 06, 2003 | Men's Basketball
Mikulas is the first Pirate ever to win the C-USA weekly award in men's basketball. The Pirates are in their second season of league competition in the sport.
The 6-8 native of Cordoba, Argentina, scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, both game highs, to lead ECU to a 73-70 upset of No. 9 Marquette on Dec. 30. He followed that performance with eight points and seven rebounds in just 19 minutes of action against UNC Pembroke, a 93-47 victory which saw Coach Bill Herrion clear his bench in the first half.
For the week, Mikulas was a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line and has helped ECU (10-2) to its best start in 46 years.
Mikulas shares this week's award with DePaul guard Joe Tulley, who averaged 19 points a game in wins over Loyola-Chicago and Western Carolina.
