
Pirate Volleyball Downs N.C. State

Junior outside hitter Sarah Vick recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs for ECU. She also added five service aces to give her 20 points in the match. Freshman middle blocker Jaime Bevan chipped in 12 kills for the Lady Pirates. Amy Cochran led N.C. State with 10 kills. Junior Maya Mapp tallied seven kills and seven total blocks for the Wolfpack.
ECU out-hit N.C. State, .297-.219 and out-dug the Wolfpack, 52-38, but N.C. State blocked the Lady Pirates, 11.5 times led by Mapp's seven blocks and Crystal Shannon's four block assists.
East Carolina opened game one with seven straight points behind three kills by Sarah Vick and two kills from Bevan. The Pirates led 10-1 after Bevan's fourth kill of the match. The Wolfpack used a 9-3 run to pull within, 13-10, behind two service aces from Kayla Ragan and two kills from Cochran. ECU extended its lead to 19-12, before N.C. State rallied to tie game one, 22-22. ECU committed five attack errors during the run and Ragan put down two kills. Cochran's fourth kill of game one gave the Wolfpack their first lead, 23-22, but ECU closed out the game with an 8-5 run.
Game two saw four lead changes before ECU claimed a 30-24 win to lead the match 2-0. The Lady Pirates hit .342 while N.C. State hit .310 and recorded five blocks. The Wolfpack led 5-3, before ECU went back ahead 11-8. N.C. State answered with a 12-5 run building a 20-16 lead, but the Lady Pirates rattled off nine straight points for a 25-20 advantage. Wilson added two kills and Katie Jannusch added two services aces for ECU. Bevans's kill ended game two for the Lady Pirates.
Junior setter Jessica Vick had 46 set assists. Jannusch added 10 digs defensively for ECU while Jones finished with nine kills while hitting .500. Shannon tallied 29 assists for the Wolfpack. Adeola Kosko had six kills for the N.C. State.
ECU returns to action this weekend when the Lady Pirates host No. 21 Louisville Friday and No. 25 Cincinnati Saturday. N.C. State will host Wake Forest and Duke this weekend.
