
Volleyball Continues Home-Stand

Sophomore outside hitter Erica Wilson has led the team as of late finishing in double figures in kills in four of the last five matches. She now ranks second on the team in total kills with 198 averaging 2.71 kills per game. Wilson also leads the team in conference play. In four conference matches, Wilson has put down 54 kills on a .347 attack percentage and added 13 total blocks. Freshman middle blocker Jaime Bevan continues to lead the team with 209 kills and 86 total blocks with nine conference matches remaining. Twenty-one of Bevan's blocks have come in four conference matches. Junior setter Jessica Vick has been successful running the Pirate offense. Vick already has recorded a career-high 610 assists with the nine conference matches remaining. ECU's lone senior Alexis Jones leads the team and Conference USA in hitting percentage in conference-only matches with a .446 attack percentage in four matches.
ECU snapped its seven match losing streak Tuesday night taking three straight games from N.C. State, 30-28, 30-24 and 30-17. Wilson led the team with 16 kills while junior outside hitter Sarah Vick put down 15 kills and added five service aces.
Louisville (9-4) is No. 21 in the latest AVCA/USA Today Coaches' Poll. The Lady Cardinals rank second in Conference USA in kills, assists and hitting percentag and enter Friday's match in fifth place in the C-USA standings. Anastasia Yartseva, a 6-4 freshman middle blocker from Anapa, Russia, leads the team hitting with a conference-best .427. Senior Sonja Percan has knocked down 184 kills averaging 3.54 kills per game while sophomore outside hitter Lena Ustymenko has 183 kills on the season and averages 4.07 kills per game. Zova Flippova and Jennifer Craven have split time at setter combining for 544 set assists.
Cincinnati (17-2) broke into the Top 25 Poll for the first time this season after downing Louisville last weekend in three straight games. Junior outside hitter Julie DuPont leads the team and C-USA in kills per game (5.90). DuPont has 372 kills in 63 games with a .304 attack percentage. In three Conference matches, she has totalled 76 kills averaging 7.60 kills per game. Laura Lauder is C-USA's top setter with 890 assists. Defensively, Lindsey Garrison leads the team with 267 digs while DuPont has chipped in 222 digs. The Beacats lead C-USA in kills, attack percentage and assists and enters Saturday's match in third place in Conference standings.
ECU is 0-2 in the all-time series against the Lady Cardinals after losing in three games last season in Louisville, 30-14, 30-24 and 30-24. The Bearcats lead the series 4-0 after defeating the Lady Pirates in straight sets, 30-20, 30-14 and 30-18, last season in Cincinnati.
After this weekend's matches, the Lady Pirates return home for its final match of the four-match home-stand next Saturday.
