Townes Named C-USA Player of the Week
October 20, 2003 | Football
Townes rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Pirates to a 38-32 win over Army on Saturday.
Townes set career highs for carries (39), yards and rushing TDs as he recorded his third straight 100-yard rushing game. His yardage at Army also pushed his career total past the 1,000-yard mark.
His 39 carries were the most-ever in a game by an ECU junior, set a Michie Stadium record for most rushing attempts by an Army opponent, and were three shy of the overall school single-game record.
Townes is the first Pirate to earn a C-USA weekly award this season.
This week's other C-USA awards went to Louisville safety Kerry Rhodes and Memphis linebacker Will Hyden (defensive co-players of the week) and TCU kicker Nick Brown (special teams player of the week).
