
Volleyball Picks Up First Conference Win

Sophomore outside hitter Erica Wilson recorded 12 kills on a .455 attack percentage. Wilson has now recorded double-digit kills in six of ECU's last seven matches. Jaime Bevan added eight kills and three total blocks for East Carolina.
Lisa Newell led Charlotte with 13 kills while Jessica Kelly added nine kills. Danielle Miller recorded 12 digs for the 49ers. ECU out-hit the 49ers .254-.193 in the match while Charlotte had one more dig than the Lady Pirates, 46-45. Both teams finished with six total team blocks.
Charlotte hit .344 in game one, but ECU recorded 19 kills to take the opener. Charlotte led early 7-5 before Pam Ferris capped off a 9-5 ECU run with a kill giving the Lady Pirates a 14-12 lead. After the game was tied 20-20, ECU used a 5-0 run sparked by two kills from Bevan to take a 25-20 lead. Charlotte pulled within 27-23, but Wilson ended game one with a kill for the Lady Pirates.
ECU led all of game two building a 23-15 advantage before the 49ers pulled within 25-21. Bevan then added two kills and Heidi Krug ended game two with a service ace as the Lady Pirates led the match, 2-0.
The 49ers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in game three. The Lady Pirates rallied to take a 9-8 lead behind Wilson's two kills. ECU extended its lead to 23-17, before Charlotte rallied one again to pull within 24-21 on a kill by Newell. Bevan ended the game and the match with a kill for the Lady Pirates giving ECU it's first conference win.
Junior setter Jessica Vick finished with 39 assists in the match. Ferris added six kills and 11 digs. She also had four service aces for ECU. Molly McDonald had 37 set assists for the Lady Pirates.
ECU returns to action next weekend when it travels to conference leaders Tulane and Southern Miss. Charlotte also hits the road for matches at the Green Wave and Golden Eagles.
