
USF Rallies to Defeat Volleyball

Sarah Vick scored 19.5 points for the Pirates on 17 kills two solo blocks and one block assist. She added 15 digs on defense. Sophomore libero Johanna Bertini set a career-high with 19 digs while junior setter Jessica Vick also had a career-night with 72 set assists and four kills. Wilson hit .513 and led five PIrates in double figures. Pam Ferris added 15 kills and freshman middle blocker Jaime Bean put down 13 kills for the Pirates. Senior middle blocker Alexis Jones hit .556 tallying 11 kills on 18 attacks.
Fran Pozzi posted USF's second double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs. Johari Williams had 13 kills and six blocks for the Bulls while Bonnye Glover chipped in 10 kills and five blocks.
USF outhit ECU .275-250 and held the advantage in digs, 59-57. The Bulls' front line combined for 15 blocks while ECU only posted nine blocks.
The Pirates won the first two games of the match after hitting .326 and .312 respectively. ECU posted 20 kills and only committed five errors in game one on its way to a 30-27 win. The Pirates committed only six attack errors in game two and outhit the Bulls .312-.171 for a 30-26 win, but USF regrouped after a short intermission.
Mitchell and Pozzi each had four kills in game three and the Bulls put up four blocks to stake themselves to the 31-29 win in game three. USF hit .345 to ECU's .159 in game four on their way to forcing game five.
ECU led 4-1 and 8-5 in game five, but USF battled back to tie the game, 9-9. After ECU tied the game, 13-13, USF scored the final two game points for the match win.
USF's Melayne Wootan had 53 set assists in the match. Ashley Reavis added 12 digs for the Bulls.
ECU returns to action next weekend when they travel to DePaul and Maruqette for two Conference USA matches. USF returns home to host Southern Miss and Tulane.
