October 09, 2003 | Football
"We are very appreciative of both Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and Wachovia in their commitment to sponsoring ECU Athletics and Pirate football," said Nick Floyd, ECU's interim director of athletics. "It is quite fitting that one of the state's most intriguing football games of the season is being supported by two of the state's premier companies."
The Pirates and Tar Heels will square off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in ECU's Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. It will be UNC's first-ever visit to Greenville. The game has been sold out since last week and will be televised statewide on six network stations.
"We are extremely excited to be a corporate sponsor of the ECU athletic program," said David Parker, Wachovia's regional president for Eastern North Carolina. "By partnering with ECU, we can help contribute to a community that is vital to Wachovia."
"This first-ever meeting between UNC and ECU in Greenville is an historic occasion in North Carolina," said Bob Greczyn, president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. "Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is proud to support ECU athletics and to be a part of this big game. As North Carolina's largest health insurer, we feel a special responsibility to support education and athletics, which provide opportunities for our young people to become leaders in our communities."
