
Lady Pirates Take On Lady Aggies In Home Opener

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- After opening the season with an 82-61 loss to West Virginia in Morgantown, the Lady Pirates will look to improve to 1-1 on the season as they prepare to face instate opponent North Carolina A&T inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum tonight at 7 p.m.
In the season opener, senior Courtney Willis scored a team-high 14 points, grabbed five rebounds and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Junior guard Viola Cooper added 10 points in her Lady Pirate debut, including going 2-of-4 from behind the three-point arc.
Guards Jennifer Jackson and Alisha Bishop both added nine points, and Jackson collected a team-high seven rebounds. ECU out rebounded the Mountaineers 40-36, despite the loss.
North Carolina A&T (0-1) also fell in its season opener, 62-43, to Virginia Commonwealth. Sophomore guard Shareka Glover led the Lady Aggies with nine points and snatched down seven rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
Tonight's game will mark the 13th meeting between the two schools. East Carolina holds an 8-4 advantage, and won the last meeting 70-37 last season at Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
