
Pirates Sign Three JuCos in Early Period

Making their formal commitments to ECU are safety Zach Baker and tight end Willie Metcalf, both of Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz., and offensive lineman Joel Renaud of California's Reedley College.
"We're excited about all three of these signees," Thompson said. "These guys come from great programs and should give us some immediate help that was needed at their respective positions. They are quality players and very good people."
Baker, a 6-2, 200-pound native of Tucson, is a two-time All-Western States Football League selection. He earned honorable mention on the JuCo All-America team after recording 62 tackles and six interceptions for the Storm this past season. He has been clocked at 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard run.
Metcalf is a 6-6, 260-pound product of Belmont High School in Dayton, Ohio. , A Preseason All-American, he had 40 receptions for 650 yards and six touchdowns this past season despite missing two games due to injury. Metcalf initially signed with Ohio State out of high school.
Renaud, a Florida native who stands 6-6, 320, was a key starter on the offensive line for Reedley College's 2002 team which went 12-0 and won the junior college national championship. He sat out the 2003 season.
The Pirates will begin spring drills in late February.
