
Women's Basketball Set To Take On Savannah State

GREENVILLE, N.C. ? The East Carolina women's basketball team will play its first game of the 2004 calendar year on Thursday, Jan. 1, as it welcomes Savannah State to Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum with a 3 p.m. tip scheduled.
The Lady Pirates (6-4) are coming of a 71-65 loss to South Carolina State, which snapped their four-game winning streak. ECU is led by senior center Courtney Willis, who continues to put up points for the Lady Pirates. Averaging 19.0 ppg and 9.8 rpg, Willis scored a game-high 19 points against S.C. State, shooting 8-of-14 from the field.
Savannah State (3-9) is coming off a long Christmas break, where it last played Dec. 18, beating Grambling State, 59-53. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Pirate fans can attend the New Year's Day game and take advantage of the New Year's Special, which admits all fans for only $1.
ECU is in the midst of a seven-day, four-game stretch that will see the Lady Pirates travel to Jonesboro, Ark., for a Saturday, Jan. 3, afternoon game against Arkansas State at 2 p.m. The Lady Pirates will then finish their non-conference schedule against Murray State on Jan. 5, with a 7 p.m. tip scheduled.
