Thompson Era Begins At ECU

Introduction:
"Today was a lot of fun. There was a lot of excitement waiting for today to get here. To see these guys compete and see these guys just take in all the coaching it was fun. We have a great coaching staff and they love to teach and I think today showed just that. I am excited about our future of this team and I am looking forward to tomorrow. We need to get ready for tomorrow and it's going to be a big day for us."
On the first practice:
"This is the most fun part of the job. To go out, try to develop and see the look in these guys' eyes and see where we can go, what our future looks like this is fun. After today, I can go to sleep and visualize what our team will look like and get ready to do it all again."
On any surprises from the first practice:
"It was all positive today. I think that we finished the practice with our execution and tempo being better than the middle of practice. That tells you our guys are trying and there is a whole lot of coaching going on."
On what spring practice will accomplish:
"I would like to establish a tempo and see what kind of team that we are going to be. I want us to be a hard working team that will make the other team work harder than us. We will be a team that is physical and multi-dimensional on offense, defense and the kicking game. I am real pleased with the kicking game thus far."
On team competition:
"All 11 positions on offense and defense and the kicking game are open as of right now. During spring practice, this is the only time that this kind of thing will happen. There are some guys that have earned their position, but everyone has had the same number of practices so far this season, one. In the real world you have to earn your job, just like I do and that's what these guys have to do here."
