Gridiron Pirates Begin Second Week Of Spring Practice
March 25, 2003 | Football
"We've accomplished a lot in five practices," said Pirate head coach John Thompson. "We're trying to develop a mindset about what kind of team we're going to be and we're very pleased with our progress to this point."
All starting positions have been put up for grabs this spring under the new coaching staff with each player having a chance to win a starting job.
"We've given everybody a clean slate," stated Thompson. "It doesn't matter who did what last year, it's about the present. You've got to earn your stripes everyday."
When asked about the competition at quarterback, Thompson acknowledged that Paul Troth and Desmond Robinson had been the most productive.
"Troth and Robinson have separated themselves from the other two," Thompson said. "They both do a little bit of different things well. In fact they both had their best days today."
Tuesday's practice was the Pirates' fifth of 15 sessions that will conclude with the Purple-Gold game on Saturday, April 12.
