Pirates Complete Day Six Of Spring Practice
March 26, 2003 | Football
Here is a sampling of Thompson's post-practice comments:
"Defensively, we are coming off the ball well and our secondary is adjusting well to our schemes. The offense is a little ahead of the defense right now because of experience, but our offense has really executed and our defense is getting better."
"We are focusing on just trying to get tough as much as anything else. Spring practice is about the individual. It's about taking every guy out here and trying to get him a little bit better. Part of that is the mindset of being a confident football team."
"We get to see these kids in full pads everyday and hitting everyday as much as the NCAA allows. We just keep on coming out and stacking those bricks one on top of the other and just try to keep getting better."
When asked about some of the players that have had an impact early on offense, Thompson noted the offensive line has been doing an excellent job of opening things up for both Art Brown and Vonta Leach.
"Vonta Leach is having a great spring practice," Thompson said. "Today we were running goal line drills from our own one-yard line and he was hammering the ball off the line of scrimmage for big gains own his own. Our offensive line is playing really well and that is what we've excepted to happen this spring."
Thompson added, "Art Brown has really run the ball harder lately than he has all spring."
The Pirates worked out for a little over two hours today and will take Thursday off before returning to the practice field on Friday.
