Public Invited as Pirates Run Through Second Spring Scrimmage
March 28, 2003 | Football
The 144-play scrimmage session is expected to last approximately two hours. The scrimmage is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
"We're going to put our team in a lot of different situations and see how they respond," Head Coach John Thompson said. "We'll work on everything from goal line situations--both coming in and trying to get off the goal line, to two-minute situations and a lot of third downs. We're going to do our best to try and simulate game situations without continual drives. We'll move the ball all around the field and the beginning of it will be designated to the kicking game."
Saturday's scrimmage will also include live, full-speed tackling.
Public seating in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium will be limited to the south (press box) side of the stadium only.
It will be the second controlled scrimmage of spring practice for the Pirates, who opened their offseason drills on March 18. Another scrimmage is planned for Saturday, April 5, as ECU leads up to its Spring Game, set for Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
