ECU's Penny Earns Weekly C-USA Honor
03/31/2003
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Senior right-hander Davey Penny has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, announced league officials Monday morning.
Penny tossed his first complete game since his sophomore season and did not allow an earned run Friday night against Cincinnati, to extend his streak of consecutive innings without giving up an earned run to 30. Penny struck out seven batters and walked just two during his nine-inning performance.
He has not allowed an earned run since Feb. 21 against UCF, a span of four consecutive starts.
Penny is the first Pirate to win the award this season. Former Pirate Sam Narron earned the weekly award once last season, while sophomore Darryl Lawhorn and former ECU infielder Bryant Ward were each named C-USA Player of the Week once a year ago.
