GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Senior pitcher Davey Penny has been dismissed from the East Carolina University baseball team, according to an announcement made by the Pirate baseball program on Monday. Penny's dismissal is due to conduct detrimental to the team.
Penny, who was normally the Pirates' starting Friday night pitcher in Conference USA weekend series, was 4-3 this season with a 2.82 ERA. His most recent outing came this past Friday night against UAB when he yielded four runs in four innings of work.
An announcement has not been made on who will take Penny's spot in the weekend rotation. The Pirates conclude regular season play at Tulane this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in New Orleans.
