Rimpf Named Preseason All-America by CFN
May 07, 2003 | Football
Rimpf, a 6-6, 318-pound tackle, was one of 10 offensive linemen recognized by CFN as first- or second-team selections and is the only lineman representing Conference USA on the list.
The senior from Raleigh, N.C., has earned first-team All C-USA honors in each of the past two seasons and was an honorable mention All-America pick by CNN/Sports Illustrated last year. He has been an integral part of ECU's offensive line that has paved the way for two consecutive 1,000-yard rushers and helped the Pirates average over 30 points a game for each of the last three seasons.
"Many forget that East Carolina has played against some teams with great defensive linemen over the years and Rimpf more than held his own," CFN wrote. "He faced Syracuse's Dwight Freeney and North Carolina's Julius Peppers as a sophomore and was strong. Now Rimpf is more experienced and even better."
Rimpf has also established himself as an exceptional student-athlete off the playing field. He was one of just 11 players in NCAA Division I-A named to the 2002 AFCA Good Works Team in recognition of outstanding community service and civic involvement. He was also a Verizon Academic All-District selection in 2002.
