Dosh had indicated to media last week his intentions to transfer to ECU. The required paperwork to facilitate the transfer was completed this week and Thompson's announcement makes it official.
"We are thrilled to get a player of Patrick's caliber," stated Thompson, who served as Florida's defensive coordinator last season. "I have a lot of respect for him after getting to know him last year. He's a tremendous competitor and a big-time player who will definitely add to this program."
Dosh redshirted as a freshman during the 2002 season with the Gators. He signed with Florida after a standout prep career in Virginia where he was ranked among the nation's top 20 pro-style quarterbacks by rivals.com. He passed for 8,648 career yards, the most in the state of Virginia prep history, with 74 TD passes. As a senior in 2001, he completed 162 of 299 passes for 2,618 yards and 26 TDs. Dosh led Richmond's Benedictine High to state titles as a junior and senior and was first-team all-state both of those seasons.
He most recently participated in 2003 spring drills with the Gators.
"[Offensive coordinator] Rick Stockstill and our offensive staff did a great job in explaining our offense and selling Patrick on what we have to offer here at ECU," Thompson said.
The 6-3, 205-pound Dosh will not be eligible to play in collegiate competition for the upcoming season due to NCAA rules on transfers. His first shot at playing time at ECU would come in the 2004 season.
