East Carolina-Miami To Be Televised Nationally By ESPN2
June 16, 2003 | Football
The game will mark the 11th football meeting between the two schools with Miami holding an 8-2 advantage in the series. ECU has won the last two meetings in the series, including the most recent meeting between, a 27-23 victory over the Hurricanes on Sept. 25, 1999. That game was played in Raleigh, N.C., due to the devastation caused in eastern North Carolina by Hurricane Floyd.
With the addition of the Miami-ECU game to the television lineup, the Pirates are now guaranteed at least three nationally televised games this season. ECU's season opener at defending Conference USA co-champion Cincinnati on Labor Day, Sept. 1, and the Pirates' home game against Houston on Tuesday, Sept. 30, will both be televised on either ESPN or ESPN2.
Four other East Carolina games in 2003 will be televised locally by NBC affiliate WITN-TV, the Official Station of the Pirates. The lineup of Pirate Sports Television Network games will be announced at a later date.
Miami will enter the season opener the winner of 34 of its last 35 games and 39 of its last 41 contests dating back to late in the 1999 season. The Hurricanes were 12-1 last season with their only setback coming in a double-overtime loss to Ohio State at the Fiesta Bowl in the Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game.
The Pirates are the last unranked team to beat Miami and are one of only four non-BIG EAST teams to win in the Orange Bowl since 1996.
