Thompson Tour Coming to Eastern NC Cities
July 18, 2003 | Football
The four-stop tour also has Thompson visiting locations in Jacksonville, Morehead City, and Greenville over the coming two weeks. The tour is being promoted by Beasley Broadcasting, which will provide live radio remotes on WSFL (106.5 FM) and WNCT (Oldies 107.9).
Thompson, who was appointed as ECU's top man last December after serving as defensive coordinator at the University of Florida in 2002, will meet and greet fans at each location and will be available for autographs and photographs. The ECU cheerleaders and Pirate mascot will join Thompson at each stop. ECU representatives will also be on hand to assist in placing orders for season tickets.
"I'm looking forward to getting out and meeting as many people as I can throughout the region," Thompson said. "I hope folks will have an opportunity to come out and get as excited about Pirate football as we all are."
The tour's first stop in New Bern on Wednesday will be held at the US Cellular store on Glenburnie Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It continues the following day, Thursday, July 24, with two cities on the itinerary -- in Jacksonville at the Golden Corral (N. Marine Blvd. in front of Wal-Mart) from 12 noon until 2 p.m. and in Morehead City at Lowe's Home Improvement (Hwy. 70) from 4-6 p.m.
The final leg of the campaign is slated for Wednesday, July 30, from 3-5 p.m. in Greenville at the Sprint store, located near the intersection of Charles and Greenville Blvd.
"We at Sprint are pleased and proud to be a part of the John Thompson Tour, and we're excited to welcome John to East Carolina University," said Curt Williford, Sprint public affairs manager. "We're also excited about his upcoming visit to the Sprint Store and encourage our customers to come by to meet him. Sprint is a strong supporter of education at all levels across North Carolina, and we value our relationships with great institutions like ECU."
