Rain Forces Pirate Practice to Stadium
August 10, 2003 | Football
The Pirates completed over two hours of drills in the 43,000-seat stadium on Sunday, with the first half of practice being held in the pouring rain. It marks the fourth straight day that ECU has had to contend with soggy fields and/or the weather itself.
Practice concluded with several scrimmage plays near the goalline which pitted the offensive and defensive units against one another.
The intensity of Head Coach John Thompson's preseason camp will heat up in the coming week as the Pirates will have their first practice in full gear on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday is the first day of two-a-day practices with the Pirates scheduled to take the fields at the Cliff Moore Practice facility at 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. A live scrimmage is scheduled to be part of Wednesday's practice session, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
East Carolina is preparing for its first season under the guidance of Thompson. The Pirates will open their 2003 slate on Labor Day, Sept. 1, at Cincinnati in a game televised nationally by ESPN.
