Countdown Clock Hits Two Weeks in Pirate Camp
August 18, 2003 | Football
The Pirates were on the Cliff Moore Practice Facility fields for nearly two and one-half hours on Monday morning in the first of two scheduled practices for the day. ECU opens its 2003 season two weeks from today, on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 1, at Cincinnati.
"Our practice now goes a lot more situations, a lot more attention to pure detail," first-year head coach John Thompson said. "We're now more interested in the quality of the reps rather than quantity of the reps. We may start cutting our time down on the field and spending more time in the meeting room. We must zero in on what it takes to win."
With the team's third and final scrimmage of the preseason scheduled for Thursday, Thompson said the focus would shift to the Bearcats as early as Friday.
The final two weeks of preseason practice, including Thursday's scrimmage, are all closed to the public.
Junior quarterback Desmond Robinson was back on the practice field this morning after sitting out Saturday's situational scrimmage with a minor leg injury. Robinson and fellow junior Paul Troth, who are continuing their battle for starting duties, shared the majority of snaps today.
ECU is coming off its first day off as the players used Sunday to relocate from the local hotel that had hosted them for the first 10 days of camp to their apartments and dormitories.
