Game Situations the Focus of Saturday Morning Practice

The Pirates are nine days away from their season-opening kickoff at the University of Cincinnati. That game, scheduled for Labor Day Monday, Sept. 1, will kickoff at 12 noon and be televised nationally by ESPN.
"We tried to cover every scenario that might possibly come up in a game," first-year head coach John Thompson said. "Obviously, we can't get them all, but we tried to create a lot of situations in all field positions. We covered penalties and everything else that would make us think in terms of rules, personnel, and sideline organization, from pregame to the end of the game. It was a true game rehearsal and now we turn all our focus on Cincinnati and getting this team ready to play."
After being on the practice fields and/or in meeting rooms for 19 straight days of preseason camp, the Pirates will now have a two-day break to rest physically and mentally.
"We're going to give them a couple of days off to get their legs back and get rest. We'll come back next week and turn up the heat for sure," Thompson added.
