Ferris was named the tournament's most valuable player after recording 28 kills, 21 digs and 11 service aces in three matches. LIpscomb's Kristin Peck, Radford's Sarah Gates, UNC Greenboro's LaJean Morrow and ECU's Erica Wilson and Jaime Bevan were all named to the All-tournament team.
Against Radford, Bevan added eight kills while Wilson and Katie Jannusch each knocked down seven kills for the Pirates. Divona Cox led Radford with 16 kills. Allison Ainsley added 10 digs. Ferris had five kills in game one to lead ECU to the 30-18 win. The Pirates built a 5-0 lead behind Jessica Vick's two service aces. After Tiffany Guthrie's kill brought the Highlanders within, 8-5. The Pirates went on a 5-1 run making it 13-6. Radford pulled within 15-10 on a kill by Cox, but ECU outscored Radford 15-8 down the stretch. Radford overcame a 9-4 deficit in game two to go on top the Pirates 16-13. Gates recorded two kills and two aces for the Highlanders. ECU tied the game on an ace by WIlson, 20-20. After Gates tied the game 28-28, a bad set by Danielle Rynd and another ace by Wilson lifted ECU. Ferris had four aces and two kills in the final game to help the Pirates to their third match win. ECU outhit Radford .272-191 and recorded 17 service aces. The Pirates had 39 aces in three games.
East Carolina next travels to UNC Wilmington Tuesday. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
ECU over Lipscomb, 30-17, 30-21 and 30-11 Ferris and Bevan each had 10 kills as the East Carolina Volleyball team knocked off Lipscomb in three straight sets, 30-17, 30-21 and 30-11, Saturday morning in the third match of the City Hotel & Bistro Pirate Invitational. UNC Greensboro held off Radford in five games in the tournament's fourth match, 26-30, 30-24, 30-25, 16-30 and 15-11. ECU hit .547 against the Lady Bisons. Freshman setter Heidi Krug recorded 31 set assists for the Pirates. Sophomore Katie Jannusch added nine kills while Erica Wilson chipped in five kills for the Pirates. Ferris recorded five service aces. Kristin Peck led Lipscomb with 11 kills Brittney Lanius had five kills and 10 digs for the Lady Bisons. The Pirates opened game one with nine straight points behind Krug's serving. Krug put down three aces and Ferris added three kills as ECU led 9-0. Lipscomb rallied within 14-11 behind two kills by Peck. Wilson's three kills help spur a 12-3 Pirate run putting ECU ahead 26-14. Jannusch sealed game one with her first service ace. Bevan recorded five kills in game two while Ferris added three aces to help ECU to the 30-21 win. In game three, ECU jumped out to 9-1 lead once again behind three consecutive service acesfrom Ferris. Jannusch's two kills extended the Pirate advantage to 20-9. ECU outscored the Lady Bisons10-2 the rest of the way to take the match. Ferris and Krug each had six digs for the Pirates. Emily Smith recorded 16 assists for Lipscomb.
UNC Greensboro over Lipscomb, 24-30, 30-24, 30-21 and 30-19 Lajean Morrow recorded a match-high 22 kills while Hilary Overby added 14 kills and Abbi Meyer added10 kills to lead the Spartans over Lipscomb in the fifth match of the City Hotel & Bistro Tournament. Adrian Hicks had 48 assists for the Spartans. Kristin Peck led Lipscomb with 17 kills and 13 digs. Lindsey Rutherford also had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs for the Lady Bisons. Brittney Lanius added 10 kills. UNC Greensboro outhit Lipscomb .305-.168. Emily Smith added 39 assists for Lipscomb. The Lady Bisons won game one 30-24. Catherine Johnson's two kills helped the Lady Bisons to an early 8-1 lead. UNC Greensboro within 8-4 on an attacking error by Peck. Rutherford's kill put Lipscomb ahead10-4. The Spartans battled back to within 15-10, but Lipscomb went on a 4-0 run behind two kills from Peck. Lipscomb capped off the game with a 15-8 run for the win. The Spartans regrouped to take the next three games. Morrow had eight kills in game two and 10 kills in games three and four for the Spartans. UNCG's Rebekah Faulise added 14 digs. Lipscomb's Julie Holliday had 14 kills.
UNC Greensboro over Radford, 26-30, 30-24, 30-25, 16-30 and 15-11 Lajean Morrow earned her first double-double of the season with 19 kills and 15 digs to lead the Spartans past Radford, 26-30, 30-24, 30-25, 16-30 and 15-11, in the fourth match of the City Hotel & Bistro Pirate Invitational. Radford had four players with double figures in kills. Divona Cox, Tiffany Guthrie and Sarah Gates all had 14 kills while Kate McHugh added 11 kills. The Highlanders out-hit the Spartans .294-148 but Radford committed 22 service errors. Radford rallied from a 2-1 deficit to ty the match 2-2 after game four. In game four, Guthrie and Gates combined for 10 kills to lead the Highlanders to the 30-16 win and force game five. UNC Greensboro trailed 5-3, before two attacking errors by Guthrie and a kills by Kim Dayton put the Spartans ahead 6-5. Radford retook the lead 9-8 on an error by UNCG's Abbi Meyer. After UNC Greensboro tied the game, 9-9, Morrow's two kills sparked a 6-2 run giving the Spartans their first match win of the season. Adrian Hicks had 27 assists for UNC Greensboro and Dayton added 14 digs. Danielle Rynd had a double-double for the Highlanders with 41 assists amd 13 digs. Allison Ainsley had 20 digs for Radford.
