August 04, 2003 | Soccer
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina senior defender Penny Perrott has been named preseason All-Conference USA in a vote taken by the conference's 14 head coaches, announced by the league on Monday.
Perrott earned second team all-conference accolades as a junior last season. She started in all 21 games for the Pirates, collecting two goals and one assist. Perrott also earned second team NSCAA All-South region honors.
The Pirates, who finished the 2002 regular season in third, have been tabbed by the coaches to finish fifth in the conference in 2003.
ECU returns six starters and 12 letterwinners from last year's squad that finished with a school-best 11-6-4 overall mark and a 5-2-3 record in Conference USA. The 11 victories tied a school-best for wins and marked the sixth cosecutive season that the Pirates have won at least 10 games.
The Pirates open the season against Texas on Aug. 29 in Raleigh, N.C., at SAS Stadium, home of the WUSA's Carolina Courage.
