
Volleyball Drops Two at Liberty Invitational

Sophomore outside hitter Erica Wilson led the Pirates with 17 kills while junior Sarah Vick added 11 kills and senior middle blocker Alexis Jones had 10 kills. Junior setter Jessica Vick had 50 assists.
The Pirates took game one, 30-28. ECU out-hit the Sooners .250-.152. Oklahoma evened the match in game two rallying an early deficit. ECU hit .519 in game three to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Oklahoma's blocking came alive in game four. The Sooners outhit the Pirates, .474-.000, forcing game five. Oklahoma built an 8-4 lead in game five behind back-to-back blocks by Jennifer Adams. The Sooners held off the ECU comeback to take the match.
Sheena Werling had 13 kills for the Sooners while Keri Coats added 11 kills and Adams chipped in 10 kills. ECU out-dug the Sooners, 57-43. Johanna Bertini had 12 digs and Pam Ferris had 13 digs for the Pirates.
Morehead State defeated East Carolina, 30-18, 30-23, 30-18
Cherelle Lampkins recorded a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs to lead three Morehead State players in double figures as the Eagles knocked off the Pirates in the third match of the Liberty Invitational. Alexis Jones led ECU with 10 kills, but the Pirates were out-dug, 40-33 and out-hit, .330-.136. Erica Wilson and Sarah Vick both added six kills.
The Eagles defense gave ECU fits. Jennifer Kennedy had nine digs for the Eagles. Heidi Krug had 24 set assists. Johanna Bertini added 10 digs for the Pirates.
ECU continues play in the tournament Saturday. The Pirates will play the host team Liberty at 12 p.m. before wrapping up the tournamen against Elon at 4 p.m.
