ECU to Host Jayvee Football Game on Tuesday
September 22, 2003 | Football
The game is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.
The jayvee game is the only one slated for the Pirates this season and the first that ECU has participated in over a decade.
"This will be a good opportunity for some of our players who have seen little or no action in our first four games to get some on-field experience," ECU head coach John Thompson said. "It's also a good chance for us to showcase our university to one of the top prep schools in the region."
Fork Union, located near Charlottesville, Va., is a preparatory school which has a reputation for producing many players who have gone on to the collegiate and professional football ranks. Recent Pirates who attended Fork Union include linebackers John Williamson and Kevin Ward, as well as current ECU players Art Brown and Lance Neisz. Following last season, over 15 Fork Union Military Academy players signed with NCAA Division I-A universities.
This season, the Blue Devils are 2-0 with wins over Bridgewater College (45-0) and Averett University (49-14). Included on FUMA's postgraduate team schedule later this season are jayvee games against Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
