
Furman Rallies, Hands Volleyball First Loss

Katie Jannusch recorded ECU's first double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs. Jaime Bevan added 16 kills for the Pirates (6-1). Whitney Purser, Julia Fredrickson, Ally Hock and Liz Hillker each had 12 kills while Caitlin White chipped in 11 kills for the Paladins. Freshman setter Heidi Krug had a season-high 64 set assists for the Pirates.
Jannusch and Vick were named to the all-tournament team. Jannusch finished the tournament with 39 kills and 29 digs. Vick had 33 kills in the tournament. ECU out-hit Furman .299-.284, but the Pirates committed 17 service errors in the match. Sophomore libero Johanna Bertini paced the PIrate defense with 14 digs.
ECU returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Duke at 7 p.m.
East Carolina Sweeps through Gardner-Webb, 30-18, 30-18, 30-28
Jannusch recorded a career-high 18 kills and also hit a career-high .739 to lead the East Carolina volleyball team past Gardner-Webb, 30-18, 30-18 and 30-28, Saturday morning in the Holiday Inn Express Downtown Invitational hosted by Furman. The Pirates stayed perfect on the season at 6-0.
Bertini added 10 digs for ECU. Pam Ferris chipped in eight kills and three service aces while Alexis Jones had seven kills. ECU out-hit Gardner-Webb .288-.089 in the match. Kristie Brinkley led Gardner-Webb with 10 kills.
