GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's basketball team started its third season in Conference USA play with a pair of victories over UAB, 66-54, and USF, 65-55, this past weekend. ECU now turns its focus to its first conference road trip of the season, as the Lady Pirates prepare to take on Tulane Friday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. at Fogelman Arena, in New Orleans, La.
The Lady Pirates (11-4, 2-0) are looking to extend their current winning streak to six games, the longest since the 1991-92 season, with a win over Tulane. ECU is off to its best start since the 1989-90 season, when it started 11-3.
In ECU's last outing against USF, senior Courtney Willis posted her ninth double-double of the season, recording 22 points and 10 rebounds. It was her second consecutive double-double, and her 15th straight double figure scoring game. Keisha Anthony provided head coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener and the Lady Pirates with a spark off the bench. The freshman guard scored a career-high 17 points, shooting 60 percent (6-of-10) from the floor, and 75 percent (3-of-4) from behind the arc.
Tulane (7-7, 0-1) is coming off a 68-51 loss to Southern Miss in the opening weekend of conference play. The Green Wave have two players averaging double figures and are led by Lakethia Hampton. The junior forward is averaging 12.6 ppg and in Tulane's last two games has averaged 13.5 points and 8.5 rebounds.
ECU will continue its road trip on Sunday, Jan. 18 when it travels to Southern Miss for a 3:30 p.m. tip off. The Lady Pirates will be back at home on Sunday, Jan. 25, when they host Charlotte inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum.
