While his primary reponsibility will lie with the Pirate football team, Grieco will also work with several of ECU's Olympic sports programs.
The 32-year-old Grieco has served the past seven seasons as strength and conditioning coordinator for Florida's baseball team, while also working extensively with the nationally ranked Gator football program.
"We are excited about getting a person of John's stature, knowledge, background, and personality," said Pirate football head coach John Thompson, who worked with Grieco while serving as defensive coordinator at Florida during the 2002 season. "He has a great plan and will have our guys eating lead. I've seen him in action and he implements a tremendous program.
"Our administration and the Pirate family really made a commitment to adding this position, which we feel will take our strength program to another level."
At Florida, Grieco was responsible for preparing the Gator athletes for the rigors of the season through power and speed drills, quickness exercises, plyometrics and agility training.
Prior to becoming a full-time strength and conditioning coach at Florida in 1996, Grieco spent two years in the department while serving a part-time internship and practicum. He is a 1995 graduate of Florida with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science.
He is officially certified as a Strength and Conditioning Coach as a member of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
