GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) --- James Pinkney threw three touchdown passes to Bobby Good to help East Carolina beat Army 38-28 Saturday, ending the Black Knights' first winning streak in seven years.

Army (2-5, 2-4 Conference USA) snapped a 19-game losing streak earlier this month with a victory over Cincinnati before following with a win at South Florida before taking a weekend off.

East Carolina prevented Army from making it three in a row with perhaps its top overall offensive performance of the season. The Pirates (2-5, 2-3) piled up 462 yards of offense and forced two key turnovers in the second half to record their second win in the last three games

Pinkney finished 26-for-36 for 285 yards and made East Carolina coach John Thompson a winner in back-to-back home games. Good had a career-high eight catches for 118 yards and became the first Pirate since 1994 to haul in a trio of scoring passes.

Army's Zac Dahman was 17-for-30 for 230 yards, but he was intercepted twice. D.J. Blackledge returned a kickoff 69 yards for a TD for the Black Knights early in the fourth quarter.

Carlton Jones had a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to give the Black Knights their final lead at 14-10, before Chris Johnson capped a 68-yard East Carolina drive by bulling in from the 5 to make it 17-14.

Pirates' cornerback Donald Whitehead then recovered an Army fumble near the end of the third quarter to set up Pinkney's second TD to Good, this one an 11-yarder, to make it 24-14.

Postgame Notes

WR Bobby Good's 13-yard TD catch in the first quarter was his second of the season and career.

With his three TD passes, QB James Pinkney tied a personal best (3 vs. West Virginia, Sept. 4, 2004). The scoring strikes were also his 10th, 11th and 12th of the season and 12th, 13th and 14th of his career.

Pinkney has now thrown a TD pass in seven consecutive games, the longest span by a Pirate QB since David Garrard tossed a scoring pass in eight straight contests in 2001.

With a catch in the first quarter, TB Chris Johnson extended his streak to six straight games (with at least one reception).

ECU's first quarter touchdown was just the second scored in the opening 15 minutes this season (also scored TD vs. Tulane Oct. 9).

The 7-7 deadlock at the end of the first quarter marked just the second time ECU has not trailed after the first stanza (7-7 vs. Tulane, Oct. 9) this season.

With its first quarter TD, ECU extended its streak of not suffering a shutout to 85 games.

TE Guy Whimper's 30-yard catch in the second quarter was the longest of his career.

FS Zach Baker recorded his team-leading third interception of the season, picking off a Zac Dahman pass midway through the second period, including a pick against Tulane Oct. 9, Baker has now netted two interceptions in his last three games.

By forcing an Army turnover (interception in the second quarter), ECU has now registered at least one take-away in six of seven games this season.

The 7-7 halftime tie represented the second time this season in which ECU did not trail at intermission (21-7 lead vs. Tulane Oct. 9). In addition, the Pirates equaled a season-low by allowing just seven points in the opening 30 minutes (7 by Tulane).
