
Volleyball Falls to Houston in Three Games

Ritter finished the match with a match-high 20 points also contributing three blocks and two service aces. Kelly McAnelly and Loure Dews each had 14 and 11 kills respectively for Houston. Paige Howell hit .412 for the Lady Pirates while putting down nine kills. Jaime Bevan added eight kills and Mignon Dubenion finished with seven kills.
Houston out-hit East Carolina, .324-.135, on its way to a 30-24 win in game one. The Lady Cougars used a 11-6 run to break open a 7-6 game. Houston led 27-19 after a kill by Mary Cates. The Lady Pirates inched back within 28-24 on a ball-handling error, but Jaci Gonzalez ended game one with an ace giving Houston a one-game lead.
ECU hit .469 in game two putting down 19 kills, but the Lady Cougars hit a game-high .545 to take a two-game lead. Ritter had nine kills for the Lady Cougars. East Carolina trailed 21-13, before Bevan's kill pulled ECU within 24-22. Ritter recorded two kills down the stretch for Houston to put the game away.
Houston jumped out to a 10-1 lead in game three and never looked back on its way to the game three win. The Lady Cougars out-hit ECU .310-.023 to take the match.
Sophomore setter Heidi Krug added 39 set assists for the Lady Pirates. Cates ran the Houston offense with 41 set assists. Houston out-blocked East Carolina, 7-5.
ECU continues Conference USA play Saturday night when the Lady Pirates host TCU on Parents' night in Williams Arena at 7 p.m.. Houston heads to Charlotte for a match with the 49ers Saturday night.
