
TCU Rallies to Defeat Volleyball, 3-2

Freshman Mignon Dubenion tied her career-high with 15 kills. Junior libero Johanna Bertini tallied a career-high 23 digs for the Lady Pirates (8-11, 2-2 C-USA). Emily Allen finished with 20 kills and 16 digs for the Horned Frogs while Ellen Rehme chipped in 17 kills. TCU's defense tallied 96 digs led by Talaya Whitfield, who had 24 digs in the match.
East Carolina out-blocked TCU, 12.5-to-2, TCU hit .257 in the match while ECU hit .249.
The Horned Frogs hit .415 in game one on their way to a 30-18 win. Rehme had seven kills. TCU started the game on a 10-4 run and extended their lead to 22-12 on Rehme's seventh kill. Erin Estep ended the game with a kill over the middle.
East Carolina rallied to take game two, 30-27. The Lady Pirates hit .383, recording 23 kills on 47 attempts. ECU overcame a 15-12 deficit to tie the game, 17-17, on a kill from Pam Ferris. After the game was tied once again at 21-21, the Lady Pirates used three consecutive kills from Wilson to gain a 24-21 lead. Allen tied the game with a service ace at 24-24, before ECU closed out the game with a 6-3 run.
The Lady Pirates took game three behind their defense. ECU blocked TCU seven times and out-hit the Horned Frogs, .282-.107, on its way to a 30-27 win.
TCU forced game five after taking game four, 30-25. Vaughn registered nine kills and the Horned Frogs hit .276 as a team to win.
TCU broke a 3-3 tie in game five with a 9-1 run to go ahead 12-4. ECU came within 13-7, but Vaughn ended the match with her 25th kill to complete the come-back.
ECU freshman Kelley Wernert finished with 11 kills while junior middle blocker Paige Howell had 12 kills and eight blocks to tie a team-high 18 points. Ferris added 16 digs for ECU. Sophomore setter Heidi Krug ran the ECU offense with 57 assists and added a double-double with 10 digs.
TCU setter Erin Ludeke posted TCU's third double-double with 74 assists and 17 digs. Dominika Szabo added 13 kills and 17 digs.
East Carolina returns to action next weekend when the Lady Pirates travel to Memphis and Saint Louis to continue Conference USA play.
