Badiane Declared Ineligible For Season Opener
November 15, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Badiane, the lone senior on the Pirates' roster, will not play against Pepperdine on Wednesday, November 17 in the opening round of the BCA Invitational at the RBC Center in Raleigh. Badiane will be eligible to play in all other games beginning with the Pirates' game against either Oregon State or Siena on day two of the tournament, Thursday, November 18.
Badiane was unaware that the Capitol Park Summer Basketball League (Chavis League) wasn't properly certified by the NCAA this year as it had been in recent years. Badiane competed in only one game in the league, however it is against NCAA rules to compete in a non-certified league.
He and other area players have received a one-game penalty for their participation in the non-sanctioned league.
Badiane enters his senior campaign ranked third on the Conference USA career blocked shots list with 239, 53 shy of Kenyon Martin's record of 292. Badiane is the Pirates' second leading returning scorer (8.5 ppg) and top returning rebounder (6.3 rpg).
