November 18, 2004 | Women's Basketball
GREENVILLE, N.C. ? East Carolina head women's basketball coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener announced the final two signees, Alicia Person (Henderson, N.C.) and Impris Manning (Thomasville, N.C.) to the 2005-06 class today.
Person, a three-time Northern Carolina All-Conference selection in basketball, averaged 17 points, five rebounds and three assists per game as a junior. In 2003, she was named the 2A East Region Most Valuable Player, state tournament championship Most Outstanding Player and finished third in the balloting for the 2A State Player of the Year honors. As a sophomore, she earned all-tournament team honors at the Nathan Gay Holiday Classic.
As a three-time all-conference performer in track, Person took home state championship trophies in the triple jump (2002) and the long jump (2003).
"Alicia is a versatile guard with a scorers mentality," said Baldwin-Tener. "She has great passion for the game and her future is very bright at East Carolina."
Manning, a 5-9 guard from Thomasville HS, comes to ECU as a member of three-consecutive 1A state championship teams. In her three years, she has helped Thomasville HS to amass a 63-1 record, while earning all-conference, All-Davidson County and WLXN Player of the Week honors. Manning was also named to the High Point Enterprises Christmas all-tournament team. For her career, she has scored 512 points, collected 264 rebounds, 112 assists and 180 steals.
"Impris is a pure winner," said Baldwin-Tener. "She comes from a great high school program and knows what it takes to be successful on and off the court. She will fit in nicely with our up-tempo pressing style."
The signing of Person and Manning brings the total number of 2005-06 signees to five. They will join Erica Gilley (Lexington, N.C.), Jessica Slack (Thornville, Ohio) and Cherie Mills (Ayden, N.C.) who all signed national letters of intent last week.
"Our coaching staff did a great job identifying our needs and targeting the players we wanted and signed them," said Baldwin-Tener. "I'm very pleased with this class and look forward to all of them becoming a part of the Pirate family.
