
Pirate Baseball Hosts Campbell for Midweek Game

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina returns to the diamond for its fourth game in a 12-game home stand opening the 2004 season. The Pirates host Campbell in an intra-state match-up at 3 p.m. at Harrington Field.
Junior right-hander Carter Harrell makes his first career start for the Pirates on the mound. Harrell came on in releif in last weekend's series against UNC Asheville and threw two scoreless innings to get the win.
The Pirates are coming off a season opening series sweep of UNC Asheville, 4-1, 8-0 and 6-2. East Carolina's pitching staff limited the Bulldogs to two earned runs in 27 innings and brings a 0.67 ERA into Wednesday's game. On offense, the Pirates were led by senior left fielder Jamie Paige and sophomore second baseman Trevor Lawhorn. Paige went 4-for-8 with two runs scored and two RBI and drew two walks in the lead-off spot. Lawhorn, in his first action as a Pirate, wen 5-for-12 with a double and two-run home run. ECU hits six home runs against the Bulldogs.
Campbell (0-4) enters the mid-week game looking for its first win of the season. The Camels will send senior right-hander Josh Blades to the mound Wednesday. Blades is 0-2 on the season with a 6.92 ERA. He's allowed 10 earned runs in 13 innings of work while recording seven strikeouts. Mike Priest leads the Campbell offense thus far in the season hitting. Preist is 6-for-15 at the plate (.400) with two doubles, a home run and two RBI. Campbell is coming off a 3-2 loss to No. 24 N.C. State.
East Carolina leads the all-time series with the Camels 45-17 with the teams splitting last season's meetings. Campbell defeated ECU, 4-1, in Greenville last season. Four Campbell pitchers combined to limit the Pirates to six hits in the Camel win. ECU won the second meeting in Buies Creek, 6-3. The Pirates scored three runs in the top of the ninth to go on to the win.
After Wednesday's midweek game, the Pirates will get ready to host Delaware this weekend.
