
Pirate Baseball Shuts Down Campbell, 10-2

Trevor Lawhorn led ECU's offense going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Ryan Norwood, celebrating his 21st birthday, was 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBI. Four ECU pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts bringing the staff's total to 38 strikeouts in 36 innings. Harrell picked up his second win of the season allowing only two hits in the five innings and walking one in his first start for the Pirates. Josh Blades (0-3) suffered his third loss of the season for the Camels. Blades gave up five earned runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
ECU scored four runs in each the third and fourth innings to jump out to an 8-0 lead. Billy Richardson reached on an error to start off the bottom of the third. After Richardson stole second and advanced to third on Jamie Paige's sacrifice fly, Trevor Lawhorn singled to left plating Richardson for the early 1-0 lead. Darryl Lawhorn singled down the right field line giving ECU runners on the corner. Ryan Norwood singled in Trevor Lawhorn for a 2-0 lead. Drew Costanzo then grounded out scoring Darryl Lawhorn. Mark Minicoizzi's RBI double gave ECU the 4-0 advantage.
The Pirates extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth. After Ryan Jones doubled and moved to third on Richardson's sacrifice fly, Paige's second sacrifice fly plated Jones for a 5-0 lead. Norwood's RBI double and Costanzo's two RBI single made for an 8-0 ECU lead.
ECU added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on Mike Grace's RBI single up the middle and Jake Smith's ground out with the bases loaded making it 10-0.
Campbell got on the board in the bottom of the eighth. Lonnie Whitehead homered to left field and Joe Anthonsen singled in Nic Ewing who had doubled.
Costanzo finished the game with three RBI for the Pirates. Anthonsen led Campbell going 3-for-3 with one RBI.
John Emmert made his collegiate debut for the Pirates and struck out three in two innings in relief. Jason Neitz allowed two runs in one inning of work and struck out two Camels. Shane Mathews finished out the game on the mound for the Pirates striking out two Camels in the final inning.
ECU returns to action this weekend when the Pirates host Delaware for a three-game series. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
