Spring Practice Reconvenes On The Gridiron
March 23, 2004 | Football
"We put a lot of work into this practice and trying not to take any steps backwards by being off for a week, and I don't think we did," said Pirate head coach John Thompson. "We're a better team today than we were the last time we practiced. Both sides really executed today and I'm very pleased."
ECU conducted a 16-period, scripted "Thud" practice designed to correct mistakes. Without tackling being permitted this afternoon, the offense executed superbly.
"We completed a lot more passes out there, but we were in position on defense to make plays," said Thompson. "I thought the offense executed well today, but we weren't tackling and throwing people to ground. We'll scrimmage a little Wednesday and give our defense the opportunity to go live."
This week's practices are leading up to the annual spring game this Saturday, March 27. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
"We want to execute and put on a good show, but we want to be better that day than we are today. We're going to run our offense and defense, and let our guys go out and compete."
The Pirates have six practice sessions remaining before spring drills conclude on April 1.
