March 24, 2004 | Football
Sophomore quarterback James Pinkney completed 13-of-16 passes for 327 yards and five touchdowns during the scrimmage. Pinkney completed his first six passes before throwing an incomplete pass. He finished by connecting on 7-of-8 passes, including a pair of 70-yard touchdown strikes. Bobby Good was on the receiving end of the first 70-yard scoring reception, while Robert Tillman was the recipient of the second. Pinkney also connected on touchdown passes of 31, 25, and 38 yards.
"Our offense really stepped up and had its best day of the spring," said head coach John Thompson. "Everything starts with James Pinkney. He was able to take advantage of a lot of things today and complete a lot of passes down field. That's about as explosive as we've been."
Pinkney took the majority of the snaps with the first team, but the Pirates also rotated in quarterbacks Desmond Robinson and Patrick Dosh. Robinson completed 5-of-15 passes for 79 yards, while Dosh connected on 4-of-8 passes for 62 yards with one interception.
Tillman led all players with 90 yards receiving, while rushing for 31 yards on eight carries. Demarcus Fox caught three passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns, while Good had 85 yards receiving and a touchdown.
