Gridiron Pirates Start Week Two of Spring Practice
March 08, 2004 | Football
GREENVILLE, N.C. ? The East Carolina University football team started week two of spring football practice at the Cliff Moore Practice Facility on Monday afternoon.
Head coach John Thompson put the Pirates through a two-hour drill intensive practice which leads up to Thursday's full situational scrimmage.
"I feel us getting better and better everyday," said Thompson. "Today seemed to be our best practice so far. We got four real good days of practice last week and we need to get four good days this week. Our guys seem to have a little more enthusiasm and a little more hunger about each day getting better.
Quarterbacks Desmond Robinson, James Pinkney, and transfer Patrick Dosh all entered the spring practice battling for the starting role and have shown signs of improvement in each practice.
"They have thrown the ball well and been able to pick up the defensive schemes that we have thrown at them. Right now, we have to concentrate on protecting the ball a little better. Today we had a few dropped balls, but we will go out tomorrow and work on that."
The Pirates will hit the practice field on Tuesday in preparation for Thursday's scrimmage.
