
Pirates Earn More All-American Honors

Jones joined three Conference USA players who were named to the Baseball America All-American team, the publication announced in Omaha, site of the 58th annual College World Series. Jones, Southern Miss' Jarrett Hoffpauir and Brian Bogusevic were each named as second team All-America selections. Jones and Hoffpauir are consensus All-America selections, while Bogusevic is the 10th different C-USA player to earn first, second or third team AA honors in 2004.
Bunn and Jones are joined by Bogusevic as second team All-American selections to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America team.
Jones was selected a first team All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com as an outfielder while Bunn earned second team All-American honors as a starting pitcher. Junior first baseman Ryan Norwood and sophomore second baseman Trevor Lawhorn both earned honorable mention.
Bunn was named the 2004 Conference USA Pitcher of the Year. The converted closer from the 2003 season started 17 games for the Pirates. Opponents hit a league-low .191 against him and registered a conference-best 117 strikeouts in 105.2 innings of work. Bunn closed the year with a 10-1 record and earned wins in five of ECU's nine shutouts on the season.
Jones was named the 2004 Conference USA Player of the Year after hitting .409 heading into the conference tournament and finishing league play hitting .407 in conference. He led the nation in slugging percentage for most of the season, finishing at .823 with 49 of his 86 hits serving as extra-base hits including 26 doubles, four triples and 19 home runs. He posted a team-high 69 RBI and posted 25 multiple hit games and 14 multiple RBI games as he finished the season hitting exactly .400.
Norwood hit .383 and led the team with a school record 34 doubles and hit 14 home runs while recording 63 RBI. He tied the Conference USA record doubles in a season. Lawhorn led the team with 21 home runs falling one home run shy of tying the school record. He hit .301 with 66 RBI and added 16 doubles.
