Jones Drafted by A's on Day Two of Draft

GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina outfielder Ryan Jones was selected in the 22nd round on day two of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday. Jones joins six teammates, who were all taken on the first day of the draft, giving the Pirates seven draftees. The Oakland A's selected the senior outfielder as the 667th overall pick.
Jones is currently batting .402 with 19 home runs and 69 RBI on the season. The Conference USA Player of the Year was recently named as one of 10 finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy, given to college baseball's top player. Jones was also named to the Louisville Slugger All-American First team last week.
He was also named to the 2004 All-NCAA Kinston Regional Team this past weekend, batting .400 in the regional, hitting his 19th home run of the season and driving in three runs.
East Carolina baseball signee Dale Mollenhauer (Pine Richland High School) was also drafted on day two of the MLB draft in the 24th round by the Baltimore Orioles with the 709th pick overall.
