GREENVILLE, N.C. ?? The East Carolina football team was up practicing early again Monday morning in the first installment of two-a-day practices. The Pirates opened practice at 8:15 a.m. on Bagwell Field at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium for the morning session under mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s. The clouds rolled out during the late evening session and ECU practiced under sunny skies with temperatures in the mid-80s.
The team will hold its first of three major preseason scrimmages Tuesday inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The starting time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
"Our offense had its best day," stated head coach John Thompson. "It executed very well. James [Pinkney] and Desmond [Robinson] both threw the ball well. They got in a rhythm and the defense didn't do anything to get them out of sink."
"We're looking to see execution during tomorrow's scrimmage. We haven't changed much in the last few days. We want to see who's going to step up, make plays and do it the right way. We're looking to see who we can depend on more than anything."
Junior linebacker Mickey McCoy and senior running back Marvin Townes are both doubtful for Tuesday's scrimmage due to injury. Senior Art Brown and freshman Chris Johnson are expected to get most of the repetitions at running back.
ECU has also rescheduled its annual media day for Saturday, August 21, inside the Murphy Center at 11:30 a.m.
