
DePaul Runs Past ECU In The Second Half

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) _ Quemont Greer scored 21 points and Drake Diener and Sammy Mejia had 19 apiece Saturday to lead DePaul to a 77-56 win over East Carolina.
Greer, Conference USA's leading scorer, had 16 points in the second half and Diener hit three three-pointers to tie the school's career record with 164.
The Blue Demons (12-4, 4-1) have now won four straight. Mike Cook scored 14 points and Moussa Badiane added 11 points for East Carolina (5-13, 0-6), which lost its eighth straight.
Coming out flat after Thursday's stirring 13-point win over No. 25 Marquette, DePaul trailed 26-17 before pulling into a 30-30 halftime tie.
The Blue Demons then opened the second half with a 10-1 run as Greer made two baskets and Diener and Mejia hit three-pointers. After East Carolina closed to within 54-45 on Tom Hammond's three-pointer, DePaul outscored the Pirates 23-11 down the stretch.
East Carolina, which was coming off a 51-point loss at 14th-ranked Louisville Wednesday, shot just 35.2 percent from the field including 20.7 percent in the second half.
The Pirates had taken a 26-17 lead with a 9-0 run as Cook made a jumper, a three-pointer and a lay-in. But DePaul rallied with a 13-4 spurt of its own as LeVar Seals made three baskets including a three-pointer.
Greer, who entered the contest averaging 21 points per game, has now scored 20 or more points in 11 of his last 13 games, including a school-record eight straight from Dec. 1-Jan. 6.
