
Lady Pirates Fall To In-State Rival Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's basketball squad suffered its third straight Conference USA loss to in-state rival Charlotte Sunday afternoon, 70-54 inside Halton Arena.
The Pirates (6-12, 2-3) pulled to within 10 points late in game, 64-54, when Jennifer Jackson hit the back end of two free throws with 2:24 remaining. But a five-point run by Charlotte (16-3, 4-1) in the closing minutes sealed the Pirates' fate.
Seniors Viola Cooper and Shanita Sutton each scored 15 points, while Sutton recorded her second double-double of the season and her career after bringing down a career-best 14 rebounds. Cooper, who netted 13 second half points, recorded her 21st career double-digit game of her career.
Fellow senior Jennifer Jackson collected 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the floor. She also connected on a pair of three-pointers to move within 26 of the Pirates' all-time record, which is held by Justin Allpress (161).
East Carolina will be back on the court Friday, Jan. 28 when it hosts Southern Miss inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum beginning at 7:00 p.m..
