Badiane Named Conference USA Co-Player-of-the-Week
01/31/2005
Greenville, N.C. --- East Carolina senior Moussa Badiane has been named Conference USA Co-Player-of-the-Week, along with Louisville's Larry O'Bannon, announced league officials Monday. Badiane is the first Pirate to win the award the season and third player in school history to receive the weekly honor from Conference USA.
On Saturday he surpassed Kenyon Martin as the conference's all-time leader in blocked shots by rejecting three Charlotte field goal attempts to bring his career total to 294, two better than the former Cincinnati All-American.
Badiane averaged 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks to lead East Carolina to its first conference wins of the season last week over Saint Louis and Charlotte.
Badiane made a pair of game-saving defensive plays in the final minute against Charlotte, blocking a Curtis Withers' field goal attempt and drawing a charge against Eddie Basden. Badiane scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help ECU snap an eight-game overall losing streak to the 49ers.
