
Men's Soccer Falls To Kentucky In C-USA Clash

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's soccer team gave up three first half goal to the University of Kentucky and dropped its fifth Conference USA match of the season Sunday afternoon at Bunting Field.
The Pirates (0-11-1, 0-5-0) netted the games first goal in the third minute of play when senior Ryan Bostian served a pass to junior Calvin Simon from the midfield. Simon sprinted past a Wildcat defender heading the ball over the keepers head for his fourth goal of the season.
Kentucky (5-4-4, 2-2-1) would answer quickly with a pair of goals in the eighth and ninth minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Thomas Senecal scored off a Michael D'Agostino free kick and Tim Walters put the Cats ahead for good when he scored from eight yards out going far post.
Michael Strong netted the game-winner in the 23rd minute when he received a Senecal header to score in an opened net.
The Pirates would get a late goal from Zach Matthews when Mike Crowley sent a pass to the box that was deflected by a Kentucky defender and Matthews was there for the score, his second goal of the season.
Pirate keeper Zachery Roszel made his second consecutive start recording six saves on nine shots faced. For the Cats, Andy Gruenebaum recorded two saves on four shots faced.
ECU travel to Orlando, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 21 for a 7 p.m. tilt against UCF.
