
Pirate Soccer Falls To UAB In C-USA Match-Up

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The East Carolina men's soccer team dropped its second Conference USA game of the season Friday night falling to UAB 4-0 at West Campus Field in Birmingham, Ala.
The Pirates (0-8-1, 0-2-0) fell behind early in the match after the Blazers (6-4-1, 1-1-1) netted the games first goal when Jason McLaughlin took a deflection in one-on-one to beat ECU keeper Chris Hicks at the 4:22 mark.
McLaughlin scored his second goal of the night on a give and go along the right side of the field in the 29th minute of play. UAB netted one more goal before the first half was over to put the game out of reach for good at 3-0. Jerson Monteiro scored the games final goal in the 60th minute to capture a 4-0 win.
The Blazers out-shot the Pirates 23-8 with a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal. Matt Kowaleski and Matt Gipe each had solid chances for ECU, but A.J. Robles and Jeremy Drake held them at bay. Robles notched four saves on the evening while Drake had a diving stop on a Kowaleski chance with under 20 minutes to play. Hicks came up with eight saves on the evening for ECU.
ECU will be back on the field Sunday, Oct. 9 when they travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers at 2 p.m.
